At least 50 people braved Saturday night’s heavy snowfall to attend a dinner at the Vigilant Fire Company banquet hall in Slatington to honor two community firefighters.

Gary E. Phillips and Anthony Gnas, both of whom retired last year, were honored for their four-plus decades of service to the Slatington Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire Chief Keith Weaver presented plaques to the firemen.

Phillips served the company since 1966 and is a past fire chief of the department, having held that position for 13 years. He also served as a lieutenant, assistant chief and fire marshal in the department.

Gnas, a firefighter since 1966, held the positions of captain, training officer and safety officer with the department.
