Monroe commissioners honor outgoing treasurer

During the Monroe County commissioners meeting earlier this month, Commissioner David Parker voiced appreciation of county Treasurer Theresa Johnson and the work she has done.

“Eight years ago, she stepped forward to run for this office, and since taking office in 2018, she served the people of Monroe County with exceptional dedication,” Parker said. “With her strong background in banking, Theresa has put her expertise to work for our residents. Quite literally. Through her sound financial management, she’s helped the county earn millions of dollars in interest for taxpayers. I think it’s over $13 million at this point. It’s fair to say that her efforts have generated more interest income for the county than any previous treasurer. …

“So, to Theresa Johnson, thank you for your service for always doing what’s best for the people of Monroe County and for representing us so well across the commonwealth.”

“I heartily agree,” commissioners Chairman John D. Christy said.

Johnson’s term will becoming to end. Ira Jolley won the election for county treasurer in November.
