Area ski resorts thriving amid cold snap
The current spell of chilly conditions has enabled several local ski areas to thrive.
It’s been that way right from the get-go this year at Jack Frost Big Boulder in Kidder Township, according to Jared Klepacki, Senior Manager, Mountain Operations.
“Both Jack Frost and Big Boulder kicked off the season with fantastic opening days, and the energy on the slopes was incredible,” Klepacki said. “Guests were excited to get back on snow, and thanks to the cold weather and our snowmaking efforts, conditions were excellent right from the start. It’s shaping up to be a great winter, and we can’t wait to keep that momentum going.”
Klepacki added that for those who are an Epic Pass holder, it’s a great time to bring friends or family along for winter fun.
“We’ve been taking full advantage of the recent cold snap, making snow whenever conditions are right and expanding terrain to give guests the best possible experience,” he said. “With 6 inches of natural snowfall adding to the excitement, now is the perfect time to bundle up and enjoy winter at Jack Frost and Big Boulder.”
Jack Frost Big Boulder also opened on Dec. 5 on one park with Features, Snowflake; and Powder Puff.

The ski season got off to an “exceptional start” at Blue Mountain Ski Resort in Palmerton, said Ashley Seier, director of marketing.
“Cold temperatures and early-season snowfall in December have created ideal conditions for Pennsylvania skiers and riders, and the excitement is showing in our attendance numbers,” Seier said. “With continued cold weather, we’re hopeful to have all 40 Blue Mountain trails open in record time.”
Blue Mountain Resort also kicked off its winter season on Dec. 5, opening with the most terrain in Pennsylvania — 30% of the mountain, totaling 40 acres and 13 trails.

Similarly, Camelback Resort in Tannersville is also off to an excellent start, according to Marissa Boyd, director of marketing.
“The recent stretch of colder temperatures has been ideal for snowmaking,” Boyd said. “It’s allowed our team to maximize production, keep conditions in top shape, and expand terrain offerings — so guests can fully embrace winter and enjoy everything the mountain has to offer.”
Camelback Resort opened for the season on Dec. 3 with skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing.
