Lansford Borough Council

Lansford Borough Council acted on the following items during its meeting this week.

• Approved a heating oil quote of $2.78 a gallon for the temporary borough garage from Kattner Coal & Oil of Nesquehoning.

• Tabled handicapped parking requests from Ibania Alberto and Denice Danubio.

• Approved getting a list of outgoing phone calls from the borough office for the last two months at the request of Councilman George Gilbert. After approving the motion, council members told him that he could have just asked the staff to generate a list for him.

• Appointed council President Bruce Markovich and council members Gwyneth Collevechio and Michele Bartek to a committee to meet with the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System and Premier Wealth Management (Seltzer) to discuss pension plans for the borough secretaries. Councilman Joe Butrie was opposed.

• Approved holidays in line with borough secretaries for code officer Shane Monk following an executive session, Markovich said. The motion was initially tabled.

• Hired the Philadelphia law firm of Haggerty, Goldberg, Schleifer & Kupersmith to review the denial of insurance coverage in the federal lawsuit of Diaz vs. the Borough of Lansford. A senior partner rate is $550 an hour.

• Approved providing a letter to Doli Construction verifying the borough canceling the Powell Street sewer project.

• Advertised for letters of interest for a cleaning person/custodian for the police station and borough office.

• Advertised for letters of interest of the planning commission.

• Received no proposals for legal services for the planning commission. Solicitor Bob Yurchak agreed to serve as legal counsel at his current hourly rate.

• Hired George Krajnak and Bob Greenall as part-time plow operators pending reviews and drug tests.

• Approved $4,089.05 in repairs to the International dump truck by PVC Sales and Service in Tamaqua.

• Approved Biros Service to camera a West Abbott Street sewer line at a cost of $1,500 an hour.

• Tabled an oversized parking ordinance. Changes were submitted by council members to Yurchak.

• Approved going off the agenda and allocating Park and Recreation funds in the 2026 budget to support activities of the committee planning the borough’s 150th anniversary committee, if needed.
