Mahoning Twp. OKs 2026 budget with no tax increase

Mahoning Township residents won’t have to expend any more money to pay their municipal taxes next year.

Supervisors on a 4-0 vote Wednesday adopted the 2026 budget with no tax increase. That will leave the millage rate at 7.75 mills.

Of that, the tax rate for general purposes will remain at 6 mills; fire protection services, .5 mills; road machinery purposes, .5 mills, and building and land purposes, .75 mills.

Supervisor Ronald Reeser was absent.

Also on Wednesday, supervisors agreed to advertise for a part-time police administrative secretary.

Before the vote, Supervisor Deb McGowan explained that the position would go a long way in assisting the police department with the vast amount of paperwork that goes along with the job.

“We believe it will give them more time to patrol, more time on the road, to tend to their police duties,” McGowan said. “I just think it’s a good thing; (to) let everybody see that we have a police department.”

McGowan reiterated that the board believes the position would fill a major need.

“We believe that if these fellows had some help (with the paperwork), it would help them greatly,” she said. “Our whole thing is to get these guys on the road.”
