Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 11

Lehighton and Weatherly both earned wins in both boys and girls basketball on Thursday.

The Northwestern boys opened its season with a victory, while the Northern Lehigh girls pulled out a buzzer-beating win.

Also having success were the Palmerton and Tamaqua girls.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-Pen Argyl

Lehighton gained its first Colonial League win of the season by cruising past host Pen Argyl, 69-48.

Cole Dietz scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the first half as the Indians jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead.

The Indians, who hit 10 three-pointers, received 16 points from Blake Roberts, while Talin Fairchild also contributed 11.

Kaen Kaiser paced the Green Knights with 15 points.

Northwestern opened its season with a 61-56 Colonial League victory over previously unbeaten Southern Lehigh.

Cannon Fitch and Malachi Coleman both scored six points in the third quarter as the Tigers used a 19-10 period to turn a halftime deficit into a lead.

Fitch and Coleman each tallied a team-high 16 points, while Brady Krimmel added 10.

The Spartans received a game-high 19 points from Wyatt Adams.

Weatherly had a strong night at the free-throw line to help gain a 75-60 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

The Wreckers, led by 22 points from Dominick Kokinda, finished 13-of-14 from the charity stripe, while the Hilltoppers managed just one point from the foul line.

Five Weatherly players reached double digit scoring. Besides Kokinda, Ian McKeegan netted 16, and Niko Saldukas tallied 15. Corbin Wagner added 12, while Brandon Davis chipped in with 10.

Nativity’s Trey Keating poured in a game-high 36 points.

Salisbury remained undefeated early in the season by posting a 57-36 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Drew Petrie scored eight first-quarter points as the Falcons raced to a 21-6 lead en route to their fourth consecutive win.

Steven Lozada and Garritt Leiner both tallied a game-high 15 points, while Petrie finished with 10.

The Olympians received a team-high 13 points from Pierce Gothard, and 10 more from Cole Lazorick.

For the Bulldogs, Kellen Bauer tallied a game-high 18 points, while Michael Bauer finished with 10.

Loren Gaines finished with a game-high 20 points for the winners, while Cameron Pengelly and Gaige McGowan both finished with 10 points to pace the Blue Bombers.

The Panthers, who struggled at the free throw line, received a team-high 14 points from Brody Breiner. PV’s Jake Moyer added 11, while Jarell Thomas contributed 10.

Tegan Simms hit a buzzer-beater to lift Northern Lehigh to its first win of the season — a 42-41 victory over Wilson.

Taking an inbound pass from half-court, Simms turned and threw up a prayer from the left arc for what turned out to be her fifth three-pointer and a Bulldogs win.

Simms finished with a team-high 25 points, while Ariana Williams chipped in with six.

Juliana Bonham scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the first half, as the Warriors held a 23-17 halftime lead.

The Indians’ Ryleigh Trotman also contributed 12 points.

Millie Black scored a game-high 14-points for Tamaqua, which held a 24-12 lead at the break. The Raiders also received 13 from Kendle Miller.

For the Eagles, Mila Fleagle scored a team-high nine points.

Weatherly needed overtime to secure its first win of the season, as the Wreckers walked off with a thrilling 31-29 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Nativity.

After hitting just one of her first seven attempts at the foul line, the Wreckers’ Kelly Reiner went three-for-four in the overtime period. Reiner finished with a game-high 10 points, with half of them coming at the charity stripe.

Alexia Kehler added seven points to the winning cause.

Finley McNamara paced the Golden Girls with eight points.

Salisbury’s Roxana Cardenas chipped in with eight points.

The Olympians’ Ryah Confer just missed double figures with nine points, while Ciara Lees ended with seven.
