Legacy meeting
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Brodheadsville, is hosting a legacy meeting at noon Friday for folks who are 50 or older. It is a time of fellowship, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and invite a friend.
Christmas party
The Monroe County Senior Centers all-center Christmas party will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday. There will be a Christmas carols, door prizes and a visit from Santa.
To attend the event, participants must be registered members of one the county’s senior centers.

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is scheduled to be open from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Survival program
The Monroe County Conservation District is hosting a winter survival workshop from 10-11 a.m. Saturday for youngsters ages 8 to 12. Adults must stay for the duration of the program, which is at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.
The focus is testing participants’ skills and building new ones as an exploration of “how to thrive outdoors in cold-weather conditions. Safely build a fire, create a simple natural shelter and practice marking trails and finding your way alongside fellow adventurers” is taught.
There is a cost per child.

Old-time X-mas
Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will again present its Old Time Christmas this coming Saturday and Sunday, from 2:30-7 p.m. each day.
There is a cost for admission.
Soup pickup
Folks who ordered soup from the Seed Sowers of Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church are reminded that the pickup of soup is slated for Saturday.
Cantata slated
Effort UMC will present its Christmas Cantata during the worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. this Sunday. A fellowship breakfast will be held between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.
At 1 p.m. Effort members will go caroling at nursing homes.
Christmas Ensemble
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God on Route 115 will host the Christmas Ensemble at both Sunday services, which are at 9 and 11 a.m.
Christmas tea
Worshippers attending the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, are invited to enjoy tea, sandwiches and cookies.
They may also bring a plate of sandwiches or cookies to share.
Posadas event
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will hold a Las Posada celebration, beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the church.
Attendees will process with Mary and Joseph outside praying the mysteries, returning inside, asking their hearts “to be prepared for the coming of the Christ Child.”
Immediately afterward, attendees are invited for a posada celebration in McCawley Hall.
Attendees are asked to respond to Linda Carbone.
Donations for the event can be brought to the church beginning Sunday.
Playground meeting
The Eldred Township supervisors will hold a special meeting on at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Eldred Township Municipal Building, 490 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss plans for the proposed improvements at the community center playground. A representative of Woodland Design Associates Inc., designers of the proposed plan, will attend. The meeting is open to the public, and input will be welcomed.
Sisterhood Gala
On Dec. 19, Pleasant Valley Assembly of God will host a Sisterhood Gala, beginning at 7 p.m. RSVPs are needed by Sunday.
Dress is semi-formal.
There is a cost. Teens, ages 13 to 18, are also able to attend, also with a cost.

Santa visit
Chestnuthill Township Park is scheduled to be visited by Santa from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 20.
Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is hosting Breakfast with Santa from 7-11 a.m. Dec. 21. He is expected to arrive no later than 8 a.m.
Children under 6 can eat for free.

All county senior centers will be closed from Dec. 24 through 26, and also Dec. 31 through Jan. 2.
The Chestnuthill Center meets at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.

Prayer shawl stitching
Free hands are invited to join the Effort UMC Prayer Shawl Ministry. The group meets at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays.
Exercise classes
The Chestnuthill Senior Center in Brodheadsville and the Loder Senior Center in East Stroudsburg have varied exercise classes in which participants follow online exercise videos. Examples include Zumba and walking in place. To check on times, call the Chestnuthill Senior Center at 570-242-6770.
Love’s work
The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company in Saylorsburg and quilters from St John’s Lutheran Church in Bath sent 99 handmade neonatal intensive care unit blankets to Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.
Blessed in worship on Nov. 30 and delivered to the NICU on Dec. 1, each quilt will be sent home with a baby’s family as a symbol of love, care and prayer, according to a Facebook post by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod — NEPA, ELCA, and forwarded from former longtime Brodheadsville resident Joanne Rush.
Eldred hearing

PACE, PACENET
State Rep. Jack Rader reminds residents that Act 49 of 2025 extends the current Social Security cost-of-living adjustment moratorium for the PACE and PACENET programs through Dec. 31, 2027. Without this extension, more than 22,000 older Pennsylvanians would have faced disruptions in their benefits.
Owl Prowl
Monroe County Conservation District is hosting an Owl Prowl event from 6:30-9 p.m. Jan. 10, 2026.
The program begins at Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center with an introduction to owl biology, owl pellet dissection, behavior and identification. Then it’s a trip to the Tannersville Cranberry Bog for a nighttime search for owls with Darryl Speicher.
Participants may travel with staff on the bus (limit 12 seats) or ride separately.
Participants are asked to bring a flashlight, hiking shoes and dress for the weather. The program is for ages 12 and up. There is a per-person cost and preregistration is required. To preregister, call 570-629-3061.
