State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Jonathan R. Bellam, 44, of Honey Brook, and Clifford N. Heistand, 64, of Hamburg, had suspected minor injuries after a four-vehicle crash at 5:48 a.m. Dec. 2 on Route 443 (Clamtown Road) in East Brunswick Township.
Police said Bellam was transported by personnel from the New Ringgold Ambulance to the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg, while Heistand did not require a medical services transport from the scene.
They said the crash occurred when Weiyu Lu, 30, of Coaldale, was driving a 2022 Tesla westbound when the car crossed into the eastbound lane in an attempt to overtake a vehicle.
Police said the front of the Tesla hit the front of a 2007 GMC Denali operated by Bellam and continued to strike a 2013 Ford Focus driven by Heistand. Both vehicles were hit head-on, police said.
The Tesla continued in the eastbound lane, where a vehicle part from it struck a 2024 Ford F-250 driven by Douglas J. Hynes, 68, of Sinking Spring, after which the Tesla hit a guide rail.
Police said the Tesla, Denali and Focus were all towed from the scene.
They said Lu, who was not injured, was cited for multiple violations of the Motor Vehicle Code.
• John B. Sharp, 38, of Lansdale, had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 10:55 a.m. Nov. 23 on Route 54 in Rush Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg.
They said the crash occurred when he was operating a Polaris Sportsman 850 that struck a 2011 Yamaha operated by Spencer M. Fleischut, 37, of Colmar. Fleischut was uninjured in the crash.
Police said both vehicles were crossing Route 54 from a dirt patch to the north side of the roadway when Fleischut slowed down and the Yamaha was struck. They said the Polaris overturned.
Police said both men were wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the crash.
