Group helps Palmerton woman in need
A Palmerton woman in need of having her chimney fixed is another step closer to that goal thanks to the support of her local community.
Raising the House originally posted several weeks ago about the woman desperately needing her chimney fixed for the safety of her and her grandchildren and to keep her home insured.
The woman is the caretaker for three grandchildren, and contacted Raising the House for support, but unfortunately, the repair costs are outside of their budget, according to a prior post on the organization’s Facebook page.
“We are happy to report we received a generous donation to support this cause,” the post stated. “But we still need funds to pay for the repairs and unfortunately, the cost is outside of our organization’s budget.
“So we are asking you, the community, to help us help this family in their time of need. Any amount you can donate will be appreciated.”
Contacted Monday afternoon, Maison Allen, vice president of Raising the House, said much progress has since been made on that front.
“We are plugging away at it; the campaign to raise money is about 60% of the way there,” Allen said. “At this point, we are just really grateful that the community has come together to help this family.”
Allen noted that a donation was received from Forest Inn Masonry, “so that’s really helped bring down the overall cost of the repairs.”
However, Allen said they are still accepting donations.
“We will create an appointment for the family with the repair company,” she said. “We still are looking to get to the total of $1,700.”
Allen said the woman’s request is not uncommon.
“It’s very common in the work that we see; typically it can be smaller amounts people are in need of,” she said, adding that they do receive a lot of urgent requests from people to keep them safe and healthy.
“We’re grateful that the community is coming together,” Allen said. “This organization can only invest if the community has its back, and we’re just grateful that (even though) times are tight for a lot of people, that everyone is still coming together to help their neighbors.”
Allen said that anyone who wishes to donate toward the cause may do so at https://www.raisingthehouse.org/campaigns by clicking the donate button and seeing the campaign for this family.
