Jim Thorpe Borough will formally recognize former council member Tom Highland by naming the community room inside its new police station in his honor.
The resolution is scheduled for adoption at Thursday’s council meeting.
Highland died in 2022 from complications of a 2021 fire at his residence. At the time of his death, Highland was in his third term as a councilman. He was at one time chairman of the police committee.
The borough plans to install a plaque and wall placard inside the community room to create a permanent tribute, Council President Greg Strubinger said.
“We’re really glad to see this done,” Strubinger said. “It definitely comes with a heavy heart.”
A dedication ceremony will follow the vote, with the borough coordinating the date once Highland’s family is available.
