Joanne Melloy, one of four candidates, was appointed to the Coaldale Borough Council during its meeting held last night.

She will assume the position vacated by the resignation of J.P. McGeehan.

Other applicants for the post were Steven Tentylo Jr., Paul F. Coppie and Nicholas T. Ritzko.

Melloy was elected on a 5-2 vote, but not before two others were nominated by motions. Councilwoman Anne Girard nominated Ritzko, and Councilman Steven Tentylo Sr. nominated his son. Girard’s motion was never seconded, while Tentylo’s move was ruled a conflict of interest.

Melloy’s appointment came after a motion made by John Terray, which was seconded by Councilman Joseph Hnat.
