The Palmerton and Jim Thorpe boys basketball teams both registered their first wins of the season on Monday.

The Bombers edged Moravian Academy, while the Olympians handled Pen Argyl.

In girls action, Palmerton, Lehighton and Northwestern all posted victories

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Moravian Aca.

Palmerton rallied late to gain its first win of the season — a 54-50 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

The Blue Bombers trailed by five entering the final frame, but outscored the visitors by an 18-9 margin to finish on top.

Kurt Jedrejczyk paced Palmerton with 16 points, while Jared Grammes and Gaige McGowan each added 10.

Moravian Academy’s Sam Joseph led all scorers with 22 points.

Jim Thorpe posted its first win of the season, gaining a 47-31 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Brody Schrantz netted 12 of his game-high 21 points in the first half as the Olympians took a 26-12 halftime lead.

Pierce Gothard chipped in with 14 points for the winners.

The Green Knights received a team-high 11 points from Kaen Kaiser.

Pottsville jumped out to huge halftime lead, and the Crimson Tide cruised to a 53-34 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua

Christian Alvarez scored a game-high 24 points for Pottsville, who led 39-16 at the break.

For the Blue Raiders, still searching for their first win, Chance Makovec tallied a team-high 12 points.

Schuylkill Haven placed four players in double figures and the Hurricanes remained undefeated, slipping by Weatherly 60-58 in Schuylkill League play.

Alan Evans tallied a game-high 19 points for Haven, while Bradyn Diehl contributed 15.

For the Wreckers, who led by 10 at halftime, Dominick Kokinda had a team-high 17 points. Niko Saldukas finished with 14 and Corbin Wagner also reached double digits, ending with 10.

Manning scored 25 of his points after halftime, as the Crusaders opened up a tight game outscoring the Bulldogs 42-17 after intermission.

Kellen Bauer led Northern Lehigh with 17 points, while Michael Bauer added 14.

Courtney Connell sparked the Blue Bombers attack with her inside game, as she netted a game-high 19 points.

The winners, who raced to a 34-point halftime lead, also received 16 points from Hailey Barry — which included five three-pointers. Emma Rex chipped in with eight.

Lehighton jumped out to a fast start en route to a 58-39 Colonial League victory over previously undefeated Wilson.

Olivia Serfass scored nine of her team-high 14 points in the first quarter as the Indians raced to an 18-6 lead.

Leah Uyvari also added five of her 13 points in the opening quarter, while Brielle Parliman tallied 12 second-half points to keep Lehighton ahead.

The Warriors’ Juliana Bonham led all scorers with 17 points.

Natalie Conner had the hot hand for the winners, as she poured in 11 of her game-high 18 points before halftime. That effort helped Northwestern gain a 32-7 lead at the break.

Lillian Bernhard and Hannah Gober both finished with eight points for the winners.

Notre Dame Green Pond ended a three-game losing skid with a 51-33 Colonial League victory over visiting Northern Lehigh.

The Bulldogs, who are still looking for their first win, were led by Tegan Simms, who recorded a game-high 14 points. Simms did most of her damage at the foul line, going 9-of-12.

Nolehi also received 10 points from Jaylene Ramos.

Brenna Hammerstone paced the Crusaders, who led by 10 points at halftime, with a team-high 10 points. Ella Schweitzer and Riley Boyle both finished with nine.

The Green Knights’ Gianna Martini led all scorers with 17 points, 13 of them coming before halftime.

Leah Apostol netted all 12 of her points in the second half, while Abby Schere added 10 points for the winners.

The Olympians were paced by Olivia Snisky’s 12 points, while Brooklyn Yuhas finished with nine.

Madison Baksalary accounted for the Olympians’ only team points, as she posted a 14-4 major decision at 235 pounds.

On Friday evening, Thorpe will take part in Blue Raiders Invitational in Tamaqua.
