Incoming Lansford Borough officials sworn in

Incoming Lansford Borough officials took the oath of office in district court in the borough Monday afternoon.

Judge Beth A Dodson swore in Denise A Leibensperger, incoming mayor; George Gilbert and Joe Genits as councilmen; and Kara Krajnak as a member of the Civil Service Commission.

Leibensperger is a lifelong resident of Lansford and the first woman to be elected to the position of mayor for a full term.

“I am looking forward to working with council in order to empower our amazing police officers, making our community an even safer place to call home,” she said.

Gilbert has been a lifelong and dedicated member of The American Fire Company No. 1 of Lansford and rose to the rank of lieutenant within the fire company.

Gilbert had previously been on council and chose to once again run for council on a second nonconsecutive term. Earlier this year, he was appointed to fill the unexpired council term of Jay Doyle, who was removed from office. That term ends Dec. 31.

Joe Genits has been an active member of the community for decades. He has held many positions with Lansford Borough. He has represented the borough in such capacities as mayor, councilman, zoning board and code enforcement.

Kara Krajnak has been appointed to the Civil Service Commission.

“I am excited to be a member of the Civil Service Commission and have the opportunity to help make our town a safer place by being a part of hiring police officers,” she said.
