Allentown man hits troopers and flees, killed in crash
An Allentown died in a crash early Sunday morning after hitting state troopers with his truck and leading police on a chase.
Pennsylvania State Police from the Troop M barracks in Fogelsville were involved in a pursuit on Sunday in Allentown. On At 12:13 a.m., troopers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 1999 Ford F-150, which failed to stop, police said in a press release Sunday morning.
Upon pursuing the vehicle, the vehicle stopped in the vicinity of Lehigh and 29th Streets, Allentown, Lehigh County.
As troopers exited the patrol vehicle and attempted to take the driver, a 27-year-old man from Allentown, into custody, the operator of the vehicle struck the troopers with his vehicle in an attempt to cause serious bodily injury to the troopers and fled the scene.
Troopers were able to get back into their patrol vehicle and pursue the fleeing vehicle. The Ford F-150 lost control in the area of 12th Street and Vultee Street, Allentown, where it struck a fire hydrant, utility pole and the Lehigh Valley Logistics building, located at 1801 South 12th Street. The suspect was ejected.
Troopers arrived at the scene of the crash, exited their patrol vehicle and immediately rendered medical assistance to the operator of the vehicle, state police said.
Allentown EMS transported both the operator of the fleeing vehicle and both troopers to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest for their injuries.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the hospital by the Lehigh County Coroner.
Both troopers were treated at the hospital for their injuries and released.
