Tamaqua music dept. sets holiday concert

The Tamaqua Area High School Music Department will present its annual Holiday Music Program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.

The concert will feature the best in holiday selections presented by students in the Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, Sr. High Wind Ensemble and the “Raider” Concert Band.

The Wind Ensemble, featuring musicians from grades 9 to 12, will open the program with “Jingle Jive” arranged for wind ensemble by Steve Hodges.

The concert continues with “When an Angel Gets Its Wings” arranged by Christina Huss. The Wind Ensemble’s set comes to a close with “Christmas Vacation” arranged by Patrick Roszeli.

The Concert Choir opens the vocal portion of the show with “Sing We Now Rejoice” arranged by Brian Moore. “Stopping By Woods,” a haunting setting of the classic Robert Frost poem arranged by Elaine Schram, is the next selection. The Concert Choir concludes its vocal set with the traditional “O Holy Night.”

The Raider Concert Band takes the stage opening the second half of the program with “Celebrate the Season Fanfare on Joy to the World” arranged by Matt Conaway.

The band continues with “A Frosty Frolic” by Chris Sharp. “Heralds” arranged by Patrick Roszeli is next. “Santa the Barbarian: Snowpocalypse” by Randall Stanbridge will close the instrumental portion of the concert.

The Jazz and Concert Chorale will close the program beginning with “For the Autumn Sky” written by Elaine Schram.

The chorale will sing the first set of the classic ”Alfred Burt Carols.” “In the Bleak Midwinter” arranged by Mac Huff is the next selection. “Christmas Valentine” will close the vocal portion of the program.

The concert will conclude with the band and choir coming together to perform the “Voice of Christmas” by James Swearingen.

Accompanists for the choir are Lilyanne Hess, Cecilia Ulicny and Debra Sweeney.

The Raider Band and Senior High Wind Ensemble are under the direction of Mark E. Beltz, and the Concert Choir and Jazz Chorale are under the direction of John D. Buglio.

Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m. There is an admission fee, with discounts for senior citizens and students.
