Marian and Pleasant Valley both gained wins in girls basketball action on Friday.

The Fillies rolled past Weatherly, while the Bears upended East Stroudsburg North.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-Marian

Addy Marek poured in a game-high 25 points to help lead Marian to a 52-16 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Marek hit six three-pointers in the contest as the Fillies gained their first win of the season.

DeAnna Pugh scored eight of her 18 points in the opening quarter as Marian raced to a 17-0 lead.

For the Wreckers, Maci Kane tallied a team-high nine points.

Panther Vy.-N. Schuylkill

Mya Conti, Gianna Capone and Jadelin Stitzer all hit double-digit scoring in the first half as North Schuylkill built a huge lead and cruised to a 64-24 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Capone collected 14 of her game-high 16 points during the first two quarters as the Spartans earned a 33-point halftime advantage.

Conti finished with 14 points, while Stitzer ended with 10 — all of them coming in the first half.

The Panthers received a team-high 12 points from Lucy Kocha, accounting for half of her team’s points.

Pleasant Valley rebounded from a slow start to gain a 53-31 EPC comeback win over East Stroudsburg North.

Amaya Fuentes scored six of her game-high 17 points in the second quarter as the Bears outscored their opponent by a 20-6 margin to offset a six-point first quarter deficit.

Nevaeh Allie tallied all eight of her points in the third frame as PV extended the advantage to 13 points.

The winners also received eight points from Kylie Fuentes.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven excelled in the middle frames to help earn a narrow 40-37 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

The Hurricanes outscored the Raiders by a 26-15 margin in the second and third quarters, and then held on for the win.

McKenna Runkle tallied a game-high 15 points for Haven. Tamaqua’s Millie Black posted a team-high 14 points while Lauren Ligenza chipped in with nine.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Wilson

Wilson used a balanced scoring attack to help gain a narrow 43-40 Colonial League victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

The Warriors had nine players reach the scoring column, with Wyatt Deemer’s eight points tops on the team.

The game was tied at halftime and after three quarters, but Wilson hit 5-of-7 free throws during the final period to help earn the win.

Thorpe’s Cole Lazorick led all scorers with 13 points, while Pierce Gothard contributed nine.

Lehighton-Notre Dame GP

Notre Dame connected on 14 three-pointers to help gain a 72-57 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.

Tommy Murphy hit five of the Crusader treys and finished with 19 points, while Justin Manning topped ND in scoring with 22 points.

The Indians, who led after the first quarter, only to see the host team drain five shots in the second quarter to take control, received 19 points from both Blake Roberts and Cole Dietz.

The winners added four more from distance in the final period to help to pull away from Lehighton.

Pleasant Valley rallied from an early deficit, forced overtime, but then fell to East Stroudsburg North 65-63 in a close EPC contest.

Sebastian Sacci poured in a game-high 28 points for the Bears, who trailed by 11 points after the first quarter. Sacci collected 19 of his points after halftime.

Jake Loch added 18 points — including eight in the fourth quarter — to the PV effort.

The Timberwolves were led by Wayne King’s 17 points, while James Payne tallied 16 — including three in OT.
