W. Penn thanks supervisor

An outgoing West Penn Township supervisor was thanked for his service to the community.

“I would just like to say that Supervisor (Glenn) Hummel did a great job for us,” board Chairman Tony Prudenti said.

He voiced his gratitude at Monday’s meeting since Hummel likely won’t make it to the board’s Dec. 16 meeting. His term expires Dec. 31.

Prudenti said the township wouldn’t be in the “great position” that it is without Hummel’s help.

“Glenn, listen, I can’t thank you enough,” Prudenti said.

Hummel said he was “honored” to serve on the board and alongside other township officials. He noted that accomplishments were possible with the help of Prudenti and former supervisors Timothy Houser and Jim Akins.

“I’m honored to have served with these guys and for the accomplishments I was able to help with,” Hummel said.

He also thanked township treasurer Karen Wittig and secretary Katie Orlick.

“You couldn’t ask for better people,” Hummel said.

Over the past seven or eight years, he said, the township was able to replace equipment, build its capital fund and complete projects.

“That wasn’t me. That was Timmy (Houser) and we all worked together to do it,” said Hummel, whose term expires at the end of the year.

He said that Prudenti, newly appointed Supervisor Kyle Kester and Supervisor-elect Tom Ackerman will be in “great shape.”

“You guys will be fantastic over the next whatever time — I hope you stay for 20 years,” Hummel said.

Hummel said he’s been asked why he didn’t seek reelection.

“I just couldn’t do it, but I appreciate the support from the community,” he said.
