Concerts
• Lehighton Band, annual Christmas Concert at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall, 197 N. Sixth St., Lehighton. Tickets may be purchased from any band member or at Carbon County Music and More, 197 N. Sixth St., Lehighton.
• Ben Salem Church, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton. Free handbell concert, 2 p.m. Sunday; Senior Choir Canata, 10:15 a.m. on Dec. 14.
• Winter Christmas Concert, 3-5 p.m. Saturday, United Presbyterian Church, 6750 State Route 873, Slatington, Valley Voices Chorale, a Community Choir. Free will offering will be accepted. Contact: Anna Mary Milot 610-767-8337.
• The Lehighton Boys and Girls Band — one of the region’s longest-standing youth musical organizations — will present its annual Christmas Concert at 2 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the historic Boys and Girls Band Hall, 197 N. Sixth St. (Sixth and Cypress streets) in Lehighton.
• The Bach & Handel Chorale of Jim Thorpe Christmas Concerts: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 523 North St., Jim Thorpe; 3 p.m. on Dec. 13, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 158 Fish Hill Road, Tannersville; 3 p.m. on Dec. 14, St. Paul’s U.C.C., 1249 Trexlertown Road, Trexlertown
Events
• Breakfast with Santa, Sunday, at the Albrightsville Fire Co., 2454 State Route 534, Albrightsville. Bring your children and grandchildren and a camera and have a picture taken with Santa. Each child will be given a gift.
• Basket raffle, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Char-Will Kennels, 2 E. Railroad Ave., New Ringgold. Food, drinks and bake sale, pictures with Santa and baskets will be drawn. Attendance is not required. Benefits Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue.
• Homemade Christmas Cookie Sale, 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 13, Ben Salem Church, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton.
• Chestnuthill Township will be holding a Sensory Santa from 3 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 9 in the park building. Registration is required. On Dec. 20, Santa will make another visit to the park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Second annual Candy Cane Hunt, Jan. 1, Beltzville State Park, Presented by the Friends of Beltzville State Park. Children ages 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 are invited to participate in age-appropriate hunts for candy canes hidden around the park. Meet near the playground in Parking Lot B. Sign-In begins at noon. Hunt begins at 12:30 p.m. Bring a bag for collecting candy canes.
• The 30th annual Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Festival, tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. Friday in Depot Square Park; Saturday, breakfast with Santa and the Grinch at 8 a.m. will be held at the Perla Building; The Tamaqua Public Library has events from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; including cookie decorating, T-shirt printing, a book sale and “Tales with the Toymaker — The Nutcracker’s Magical Storytime.”; Tamaqua Area Historical Society Museum, 118 W. Broad St., will be open from 5-8 p.m. today and Friday. The museum will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; Toolshed Jack Ugly Sweater Holiday Party at 7 p.m. at the Tamaqua Arts Center. Tickets are required; train rides with Santa by Reading & Northern Railroad will take place at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday or Sunday. Train tickets are available by calling the railroad at 610-562-2102 or in person with cash only at Tink’s Antiques. • Black Forest Krampusnacht and Witches Night Market Lehighton, South First Street, Lehighton. Immersive celebration of folklore and resilience will be held on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Father Christmas, The Snow Queen, Santa Lucia, Mari Lwyd, Belsnickel, and others will be in attendance, as well as music, art and food.
Shopping
• Community Christmas event: Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Palmerton. On Dec. 14, parents can shop for free stocking stuffers for their children during a free community Christmas event. Parents can choose two of each item for their children ages 2-10. The church will also be giving those parents a dozen holiday cookies. Families can also register to win a free Christmas ham or turkey. Free gift wrapping for up to five gifts. There will also be Support Our Troops Christmas cards available to sign.
• Christmas shopping super sale, holiday decorations, gift items, gift wrap, pet gifts, toys, games, puzzles, art supplies, home items, clothing and more, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Christmas. Toy drives
• LaRose’s Skating Rink: Toy drive during open skate sessions. Donate a new toy (minimum $5 value) during any open skate session through Saturday. Each donation earns a voucher for a free slice of pizza and a soda to use that night. LaRose’s Skating Rink is located at 2800 Interchange Road, Route 209, Lehighton.
Tree lightings
• Jim Thorpe Community Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday, 5:30 p.m. in Josiah White Park for festive music provided by the Jim Thorpe High School Chorus, Band and Cheer Squad. Santa arrives at 6 p.m. on the Jim Thorpe Trolley to light the Christmas tree
• Friends of Lansford Recreation and Lansford Alive will host the annual Christmas tree lighting and arrival of Santa Claus on Sunday in Kennedy Park along Patterson Street. Celebration begins at 2 p.m. with music and hot chocolate and sweets available from Delacruz Delites, before the arrival of Santa at 3 p.m. Dave Matsinko will introduce the Panther Valley High School Band for the national anthem ahead of a welcome from Gwyneth Collevechio from the Friends group around 4 p.m. Tree lighting at 5 p.m.
• Lehighton Trees in the Park, 2- 6 p.m. Sunday.
• Nesquehoning’s Christmas on the Hill is 5-7 p.m. Saturday, New Columbus park. Event kicks off with a Santa parade. The tree lighting takes place at 6 p.m. Live reindeer.
• Palmerton Christmas in the Park, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
• Polk Township, 4 p.m. on Sunday near the Veterans Memorial on Route 209.
• Ross Township Christmas Celebration will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 13. The event will feature a tree lighting ceremony and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, arriving by firetruck.
• Summit Hill, “Christmas on the Hill,” which features Santa’s visit, free trolley rides and other activities will begin at 5 p.m. on Dec. 14 in Ludlow Park. Trolley rides will begin at 5 p.m. and Santa is scheduled to arrive via a firetruck about 6 p.m. The trolley rides are sponsored by the borough’s American Legion Post and are provided free.
• Slatington Christmas tree lighting, 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Slatington Trailhead, 89 Main St.
• Tamaqua, Friday, Depot Square Park, tree lighting as part of the Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Festival.
• Walnutport tree lighting 2-5 p.m. Saturday.
