State police at Bethlehem - crashes

State police at the Bethlehem barracks reported the following crashes:

• A gas station pump was heavily damaged and deemed inoperable after it was struck by the trailing unit of a rig at 9:36 p.m. Nov. 18 on Route 309 in Heidelberg Township.

Police said the operator of a 2021 Freightliner attempted to make a U-turn at the Shell Gas Station parking lot, which is a traffic way, at which time the rear right side of the rig struck the pump.

Police said the rig had minor damage but a towing service was called to free the trailer from a concrete barrier. The rig was subsequently driven from the scene.

The truck’s driver was not identified by police.

• Damage was minor in a two-vehicle crash at 8:33 p.m. Nov. 19 at the intersection of Route 873 and Opossum Lane in Washington Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said the crash occurred as a 2011 Ford Fiesta was southbound on Route 873 and approaching a stop sign when it struck a 2023 Toyota Tundra whose driver turned left and entered the intersection.

The drivers of the vehicles were not identified by police.

• Sean M. Taylor, 30, of Slatington, was uninjured when the vehicle he was driving struck a deer at 11 p.m. Nov. 19 on Old Post Road, Washington Township.

Police said he was driving a 2022 Toyota Corolla southbound when the incident happened. The car was towed from the scene.

• Jessiah M. Ortiz, 18, of Weatherly, had suspected minor injuries, while Chad M. Distler, 54, of Palmerton, had possible injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 8:05 p.m. Nov. 25 on Route 309 in North Whitehall Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Ortiz was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty southbound when it struck a curb, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which hit a 2013 Ford F-150 driven by Distler.

The vehicles were towed from the scene.

Police said both drivers refused emergency medical services transports from the scene.

Ortiz was cited after the crash, according to police.
