December 2, 1955 — Lehighton uses a big second half to pull away for a 61-36 victory over Jim Thorpe in both team’s season opener. The Indians, coached by Ben Jones, lead by eight points at halftime but outscore the Olympians by a 28-11 margin over the final two quarters. Tommy Shupp leads the way for the winners with a game-high 16 points while Gordie Depuy contributes 15. The Tribe also receives 12 from Marv Miller. For Thorpe, coached by Ossie Maehrer, Mike Hurley tallies a team-high 14 points. Dave Anewalt chips in with seven.
