The Weatherly girls basketball team opened up their season with a convincing win over MMI on Monday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-MMI

Weatherly raced to an early lead and cruised to a 37-17 non-league victory over MMI in the Wreckers’ season opener.

Kelly Reiner scored 10 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter as the winners opened up a 16-0 advantage.

Alexia Kehler chipped in with seven points for Weatherly.

The Preppers received a team-high nine points from Keirsi Mooney.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-Saucon Valley

Saucon Valley built a big halftime lead and coasted to a 52-41 non-league victory over Tamaqua in both team’s season opener.

Noah Weiss finished with a game-high 14 points for the Panthers, who gained a 14-point advantage at the break. The winners also received 13 points from Thomas Cahill.

For the Blue Raiders, Terrence McDowell tallied a team-high nine points, while Brady McCabe chipped in with eight.
