It was a memorable night for Lehighton on Saturday as the Indians captured the Hamburg Tip-Off Tournament title while one of their players — Cole Dietz — reached 1,000 career points.
Elsewhere, the Weatherly boys opened their cage season with a victory, while Northwestern wrestlers Luke and Vinnie Fugazzotto both earned titles at the Rough Rider Invitational.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Northern Lehigh-Lehighton
Cole Dietz poured in a game-high 31 points — including the 1,000th of his career — as Lehighton edged Northern Lehigh 62-54 in the championship game of the Hamburg Area Tip-Off Tournament.
Dietz, who was named the tourney’s MVP, scored 17 of his points in the second half as Lehighton broke a 29-29 halftime tie.
Talin Fairchild contributed 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Blake Roberts chipped in with seven and also earned a spot on the all-tourney team.
The Bulldogs, who trailed by just two points heading into the final frame, received a team-high 19 points from Coy Daubert, which included six treys. Kellen Bauer, who joined Daubert on the all-tourney team, added 13.

Panther Valley-Weatherly
Ian McKeegan scored 11 of his game-high 27 points in the final quarter to help lift Weatherly to a 67-55 victory over Panther Valley in the Wreckers’ season opener.
Corbin Wagner added 14 points for the winners, while Niko Saldukas contributed 13.
For the Panthers, Jarell Thomas tallied a team-high 19 points. Brody Breiner and Chase McArdle both chipped in with nine.

Palmerton-Stroudsburg
Stroudsburg erupted for 24 points in the third quarter to help the Mounties pull away from Palmerton for a 69-53 non-league victory in the season opener for both teams.
Deon Davis and Jarel Jackson both scored seven points in the pivotal third frame for the winners.
Stroudsburg’s Tae El-Bassiouni finished with a game-high 19 points, while Jackson added 13 and Davis ended with 12.
For the Blue Bombers, Cameron Pengelly paced Palmerton with 15.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Northwestern-Eastern Lebanon Cty.
Eastern Lebanon County raced to an early lead, and then held off Northwestern for a 53-45 victory in the championship game of the Hamburg Area Tip-Off Tournament.
The Raiders jumped out to a 29-9 start in the first quarter. Although it only scored 24 more points over the final three frames, ELCO managed to hang on for the win and the title.
Madie Stout paced the winners with 21 points, while teammate Kenzie Eckart added 14.
The Tigers received a game-high 22 points from Natalie Conner, who was named to the all-tourney team.

Dieruff used a strong second half to help gain a 52-43 non-league victory over Tamaqua.
Jayla Rosario poured in a game-high 21 points for the Huskies, while Aniya Holder ended with 12.
The Blue Raiders, who were tied at halftime, received a team-high 16 points from Millie Black. Tamaqua’s Lauren Ligenza also chipped in with nine.

WRESTLING
Rough Rider Invitational
Northwestern crowned two champions, and the Tigers’ squad finished fourth in the 15-team field at Catasauqua’s Rough Rider Invitational.
Jim Thorpe also participated and finished 12th in the team standings.
Luke Fugazzotto, who recorded pins in all of his three matches, took the top spot at 189, while Vinnie Fugazzotto went 4-0 to capture the crown at 172 for the Tigers.
Third-place finishers for Northwestern included Logan Heeps (107), Weston Killar (127), Trent Coll (145) and Braydon Uricchio (152).
Jim Thorpe’s Jared Reese (107), Stephen Korte (139) and Jared Mantilla (160) all placed fifth at their respective weights.
