PSP Hazleton - crashes
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Mary F. Simone, 66, of Jim Thorpe, was injured in a three-vehicle mishap at 3:46 p.m. Nov. 3 on Route 93 in Banks Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.
They said she was a passenger in a car driven by Elizabeth M. Simone, 28, also of Jim Thorpe.
Police said the incident occurred when Charles M. Perez Diaz, 47, of Weatherly, was driving a 2016 Kia Soul eastbound when it struck a 2013 Honda Fit driven by Elizabeth Simone that was stopped behind a 2025 Kia Seltos operated by Jose Vasquez, 66, of Jim Thorpe. The initial impact caused the Fit to strike the Seltos.
Police said Perez Diaz was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
All three drivers were uninjured, police said.
• Maria D. Garcia Almaraz, 52, and a baby, both from Hazleton, were transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton, by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps after a two-vehicle crash at 2:35 p.m. Nov. 5 on Airport Road in Hazle Township.
Police said Garcia Almaraz had minor injuries while it is unknown whether or not the baby was hurt.
She was in a rear-facing child safety seat in a vehicle driven by Garcia Almaraz. Another passenger, Johanna Ledesma, 20, of Hazleton, was uninjured.
Police said the crash occurred when Lawrence D. Yurick II, 62, of Lehighton, was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that struck the rear of a 2017 GMC Acadia driven by Garcia Almaraz in a “rear-end” type crash. They said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Yurick, who was uninjured, was cited for “obedience to a traffic control device” while Garcia Almaraz was cited for driving a vehicle that had an expired registration.
