Finlan to continue as Marian principal

The Diocese of Allentown and Marian High School announced that the Rev. Robert T. Finlan ’86 CBHS will continue to serve as principal of Marian High School as the school prepares for its 75th anniversary in 2029.

Over the past several months, a dedicated Principal Search Committee engaged in thorough discussions, evaluations, and discernment regarding Marian Catholic’s leadership needs for the years ahead.

Both Bishop Alfred A. Schlert and the Marian High School Board of Directors extend their sincere gratitude to the committee for its diligent work, generous time, and thoughtful service to the school community.

As Marian approaches this significant milestone, the Diocese and the Board affirmed that Finlan’s steady leadership, deep commitment to Catholic education, and strong connection to the Marian community will continue to guide the school forward.

“I am grateful for the faithful efforts of the Principal Search Committee and for the clarity their work brought to our shared mission for Marian High School. As we look toward Marian’s 75th anniversary, the school’s strength must remain rooted in its Catholic identity and in its mission to proclaim Jesus Christ. Father Finlan has shown a deep dedication to this mission and to the young people and families served by Marian. I am confident that his leadership will continue to foster a vibrant, faith-filled future for the school,” said Schlert.

Dave Bielen, chairman of the Marian Board of Directors stated that “on behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to express our profound appreciation to the members of the Principal Search Committee for their thorough and prayerful work. Their efforts helped illuminate the qualities needed to lead Marian into its next chapter.

“Father Finlan has provided steady, faith-driven leadership since arriving at Marian, and we are grateful for his continued service as we prepare to celebrate 75 years of delivering strong Catholic education to Luzerne, Schuylkill and Carbon counties.”

The Rev. Finlan said, “I am humbled to continue walking with the Marian community — our students, faculty, families, alumni, and supporters — as we build toward the school’s 75th anniversary. Marian’s mission is alive in the dedication of everyone who calls this school home. I am grateful for the trust placed in me, and with God’s grace, I look forward to strengthening our shared commitment to faith, family, and excellence in the years ahead.”

The Diocese of Allentown and the school’s leadership remain united in their dedication to ensuring that Marian continues to offer a Christ-centered, academically strong, and mission-driven education for generations to come.

Since opening its doors in 1954, Marian High School has graduated more than 8,000 students, now living in all 50 states and abroad. The school proudly honors the legacies of its predecessor institutions — Saint Ann’s High School (Lansford), Saint Mary’s High School (Coaldale), Saint Jerome’s High School (Tamaqua), and Mauch Chunk Catholic High School (Jim Thorpe).
