Eldred supervisors hear from community groups

The Eldred Township supervisors heard reports from community groups and discussed or approved several items at their meeting on Nov. 19.

Historical Society

Progress is being made on the former post office, which is where the Eldred Township Historical Society plans to have a museum.

Ann Velopolcek, the township’s secretary, said the historical society has hired a company to paint the outside of the building.

The primer is done, and the final two coats of paint will be applied in the spring. If the winter is warm and weather permits, the painting could be done sooner.

Fire Department

Fire Chief Brian Stankovich, of the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Department, said the department has received the grant money it was awarded earlier this year through the 2025 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

The grant was $126,000, and it was spent on new air packs. The air packs have to be replaced every 15 years, Stankovich said. Turnout gear has to be replaced every 10 years.

The fire department also will be holding a breakfast on Dec. 7.

Thrift Store

Donna Deihl, the manager of the Kunkletown Thrift Store in the Eldred Township Community Center, said they are in need of a laptop computer.

David Anderson, the township treasurer, said there is a laptop in the office that isn’t being used.

The supervisors said they will consider it as an option, but didn’t make an official decision.

Deihl also said the store will be open until 7 p.m. on Dec. 4, 11 and 18.

Planning

The Eldred Township Planning Commission has been working on Commercial Solar Facilities, Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance amendments.

A public hearing will be held on Dec. 17 before the supervisors’ regular meeting at 7 p.m.
