Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items during their bimonthly meeting last week.

• Approved a quote with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP of Allentown, to replace the old intercom system with a video system and under desk button for the ramp door of the third floor of the administration building. The total cost is $4,605.15.

• Approved a service agreement with Reynolds Business of Emmaus for three Canon reader/printers, two Alos microfilmers, one Minolta microfilmer camera, two Minolta reader/printers at a total cost of $10,550.

• Reappointed Dr. Dawn Mriss of Lehighton to a three-year term on the animal shelter advisory commission.

• Reappointed Dr. Carl Frankel of Hazleton and Brendan Lee of Jim Thorpe to five-year terms to the environmental education advisory board.

• Reappointed Barbara Green of Lehighton to a five-year term on the industrial development authority.

• Reappointed Richard Forgay II of Lansford to a five-year term to the parks and recreation commission.

• Approved, on the recommendation of the 911 director, to extending the existing equipment maintenance contract with Radio Maintenance Inc. of Reading for an additional one-year term at a total cost of $84,000.

• Approved an agreement with Forensic Pathology Associates, doing business as Health Network Laboratories of Allentown, to provide several services for the coroner’s office for 2026. A fee schedule was set as part of the agreement.

• Ratified a county assistance agreement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, acting through the Department of Corrections, for recommendations and technical assistance regarding the repair of a cell door in the restricted housing unit at the county prison.

• Approved an addendum to Keystone Consulting Engineers Inc. of Kresgeville to provide professional engineering services to the Carbon County Planning and Development office at an hourly rate of $137.50 for the remainder of 2025 and an increase to $144 per hour in 2026, with the total cost not to exceed $6,000.

• Approved a quote from Johnson Controls of Wilkes-Barre to perform a planned preventative maintenance service at the courthouse on the three air-handling HVAC units at a total cost of $14,282.84.

• Reappointed Donna McGarry to the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

• Appointed Zachary Gilbert, Carbon County Emergency Management Agency coordinator, to a permanent board position at the Emergency Operations and Training Center board of directors.

• Approved a request from Family Promise of Carbon County for $50,000 from the Attorney General opioid settlement funds for services for people at the shelter directly affected by Opioid Use Disorder, including meals, job training, housing assistance and linkage to services and case management services.

• Approved a request from the register of wills for the purchase of an Office Rotomat 400 lektriever from Hanel Storage Systems LP of Warrendale. The total cost is $94,236.08.
