Warmer than expected temperatures have caused Blue Mountain Resort to scale back its anticipated opening day for the 2025-2026 season.
Originally expected to open Friday for the season, the resort expects to open sometime late next week, according to Ashley Seier, director of marketing.
“We just haven’t had the temps,” Seier said. “And it’s been warm.”
Seier added that while the resort is a bit bummed that it can’t open on Black Friday, the silver lining is in the cooler temperatures that are forecast.
“The temperatures shift nonstop (so), we anticipate an opening next weekend,” she said. “If we can get the mountain open sooner, we certainly will.”
Seier noted that snowmaking is expected to start back up on Thanksgiving night as soon as temperatures allow.
At that point, she said they’ll mix snow on 16 trails and all three tubing hills, with a total of 275 snow guns firing at one time.
Seier said that includes some of the more popular trails, such as Burma Road, Paradise, Free fall, Central Park and Vista.
She added it takes about 80 hours of snowmaking to get the 16 trails open.
Blue Mountain is known for typically being the first ski resort to open in the Poconos.
