Riston Barr, a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School and Monroe Career & Technical Institute in 2018, was officially appointed the precision machine technology instructor at Carbon Career & Technical Institute.
The recent personnel move by the school’s joint operating committee was effective retroactive to Nov 3. Barr replaces Kevin Kuehner, who resigned earlier this year.
During his senior year, Barr completed a co-op program at Bihler of America, enrolled and completed its tool and die maker apprenticeship, and then worked at Bihler until starting at CCTI.
“Since arriving, I’ve focused on understanding where each student is in their learning, and tailoring instruction to meet their needs,” Barr said. “My second-year students are working on NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) parts, and all students have pretested for the Measurement, Material & Safety NIMS.
“I am developing curriculum and working toward obtaining updated digital textbooks to align instruction with current industry standards.”
Barr thanked David Reinbold, administrative director, and Maritza Reinbold, for their support, along with Michele Klock, his faculty mentor.
“I’m grateful for the warm welcome and excited to help this program continue to grow in the years ahead,” Barr said.
