Nesquehoning residents should not expect to see a higher tax bill in 2026.
During the borough council’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, council voted to keep the millage rate the same as last year’s rate. That means that it stands at 20.8 mills: 17.5 for general fund; 0.35 for parks and recreation; 1.85 for fire protection; and 1.1 for street lighting.
For taxpayers, the action means that the owners of a $100,000 home assessed at $50,000 should pay the same in real estate taxes that they did in 2025.
Councilwoman Lois Kuba, chair of the budget and finance committee, said that everyone worked together this year and through that hard work in cutting expenses they were able to hold the line on the approximate $2.5 million budget.
“It’s a balanced budget,” she said before the vote. “Everybody really watched this year and hope it carries over to next year.”
Council President David Hawk said that the tentative 2026 budget is now available for public viewing in the borough office.
It will be formally acted on for final adoption during council’s December meeting on Dec. 17.
