State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Rooney Lindstrom, 63, and Valerie J. Graef, 75, both of Saylorsburg, were injured after a two-vehicle crash at 5:47 p.m. Nov. 12 on Blue Ridge Road, Ross Township.
Police said they were transported personnel from the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus, Stroudsburg.
They said the crash occurred as Lindstrom was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Trail Blazer westbound when it crossed into the opposite lane and into the path of a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Graef, striking it head-on.
The vehicles had heavy front-end damage and were towed from the scene.
Police said Lindstrom was cited after the crash.
An 8-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Santa Fe was uninjured.
• Abel J. Engler, 18, of Stroudsburg, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 10:16 p.m. Nov. 10 on Kunkletown Road in Ross Township. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2015 Subaru eastbound when it crossed the roadway and traveled onto the left shoulder, striking a ditch. It continued into a field, striking downed trees and overturning multiple times.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
• Desiree J. Jaeckle, 70, of Kunkletown, was uninjured when the car she was driving struck a deer on Kunkletown Road at 5:10 p.m. Nov. 10.
Police said she was driving a 2017 Mazda eastbound when the crash occurred, resulting in the deer traveling through the windshield of the car and landing on its trunk.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
• Police responded to two-vehicle crash at 3:10 p.m. Nov. 9 on Jonas Road, Chestnuthill Township.
They said a 2009 Ford Fusion was eastbound and traveling at an unsafe speed when it struck a 2011 Ford F-150. Police said the Fusion had moderate damage, while the F-150 had minor damage.
The driver of the Fusion was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
Police did not provide the names or hometowns of the drivers.
• No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 5:13 p.m. Nov. 7 on Route 115 in Ross Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Robert H. Leuthardt III, 18, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound and traveling too fast for conditions when it struck the back of a 2011 Subaru Outback driven by Tyler T. Amy, 29, of Saylorsburg.
Police said the Jetta had disabling damage and was towed from the scene. The Outback had functional damage and was able to be driven from the scene.
Police said Amy requested emergency medical services for a suspected head injury.
Leuthardt was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, police said, while Amy was cited for driving while her license is suspended due to a driving under the influence offense.
• Injuries were averted in a one-vehicle crash at 9:56 p.m. Nov. 2 on Mauch Chunk Street (Route 209) in Mahoning Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Julie Wardell, 24, of Wilkes-Barre, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic southbound and was negotiating a left curve when the car traveled into the opposite lane. They said braked and the car skidded before swerving back into the right line and traveling onto the right shoulder, where it struck a rock wall. The car was towed from the scene.
Police said Wardell was taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
Arnold N. Balz, 25, of Nanticoke, was a passenger in the vehicle.
