Jim Thorpe Area School District recognized longtime director Glenn Confer on Wednesday as he ended a 34-year tenure on the board.

Acting Superintendent Tom Lesisko read Confer’s final statement.

“I would like to thank the people in the school district who supported me all these years as I served on the school board,” the statement from Confer, who did not seek reelection, said.

It continued with appreciation for colleagues.

“He also wants to thank all of the board members that he served with, especially Pearl Sheckler, Dennis McGinley and Gerry Strubinger, with whom he has served the last 11 years.”

Confer’s statement was followed by a round of applause from those in attendance Wednesday.

“That’s a lot of decisions at no salary,” Lesisko said.
