GoFundMe set for Penn Forest fire victims

A GoFundMe has been started for a Penn Forest Township family who lost everything — including five animals — in a ferocious fire Friday.

Multiple fire companies responded to a working dwelling fire on Dana Court, Valley View Estates, according to a post on Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2’s Facebook page.

Volunteers arrived to find heavy fire showing from the residence, according to the post.

“Special thanks to Palmerton Fire Department, who later established a second site for tankers, and Lehighton Fire Department for standing by at our station for any additional calls,” the post states.

Volunteers operated for about six hours.

Hollie Buskirk, of Albrightsville, created the fundraiser on behalf of Daniel Sakasitz, who is her best friend, along with the family — four adults and two children.

“In a matter of moments, they lost their entire home, all of their belongings, and heartbreakingly, five beloved animals,” Buskirk said. “The impact of this tragedy has been overwhelming, leaving them without the comforts and security they once knew.”

Buskirk added that, “Despite this unimaginable loss, they are doing their best to stay strong and support one another through these difficult days.

“This family is incredibly hard working and humble,” she said. “They have always been the first to lend a hand to others, but now they find themselves in a position where they need help.”

Buskirk said the funds raised will go directly toward essentials like clothing, food, and temporary housing, as well as helping the family purchase their future home.

She noted that the family is also caring for their two surviving dogs, who need food and supplies.

With so much uncertainty ahead, monetary donations are the most helpful way to support them as their needs continue to change, Buskirk said.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with prayers, support, and offers to help,” she said. “Your kindness means the world to this family. Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference as they begin to rebuild their lives from the ground up.”

As of 10 a.m., $5,370 of the $20,000 goal had been raised.
