The East Penn Transportation Company announced plans to terminate its operations after Jan. 1, 1980, which will result in Schuylkill County’s bus line coming to a halt.

The announcement was made by Rita Bolitho, vice president and treasurer, and her son, Hubert, vice president and secretary, of the company, citing declining ridership, rising fuel costs and insurance rates and other economic factors. The said they plan to liquidate the company’s assets.

The firm has been providing services to Tamaqua, Cressona, Schuylkill Haven, Pottsville, Minersville, Mahanoy City, Shenandoah and Frackville. It is estimated between 800 to 1,000 senior citizens commute daily on the bus line.
