Penn Forest’s budget ready to review

Penn Forest Township supervisors approved a motion on Nov. 3 to advertise the proposed 2026 budget.

The General Fund will have an estimated beginning balance of $3.5 million. Sanitation’s estimated balance will be $550,000 and State Liquid Fuels balance will be $1,000.

The supervisors also approved the following items:

• A distribution of $30,000 from the rolling truck fund, which is given annually to pay for fire trucks, for both Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company #1 and #2.

• The Collective Bargaining Agreement with Teamster Local 773, effective Jan. 1. The union includes road crew, transfer station and office staff. The terms of the contract will not be made public until it takes effect.

• Hiring John Bukics as a general laborer at $21.05 per hour, bringing the crew for snow season to four.

• Work on township vehicles including the purchase of a tire for the 2020 F350 for $217.87 and mounting the tire and an oil change at a cost of $113.75.

• Purchase of a new sign at the turnpike entrance on Route 903 was ratified for a cost of $770.50.

• Up to $500 was approved for the Township tree lighting from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the park.

• Opening the concession stands and bathrooms at Penn Forest Park for the “Minty Miller” run/walk from 1 to 2 p.m. on Dec. 13.

• Fire Police for the Dec. 13 snowflake walk/run in Lehighton.

• Purchase of 13 residential transfer station permits for 2026, totaling $1,950.

• Received two administrative and financial Right to Know requests and 64 building, zoning and septic requests, totaling 56.25 hours.
