November 18, 1977 — A fourth-quarter touchdown and extra point prove to be the difference as Palmerton ends its season with a narrow 7-6 Centennial League victory over rival Slatington. The Blue Bombers, coached by Bill Duckett, end a 44-yard drive early in the final frame when Phil McGarry scores from the 1-yard line on a fourth down play. Charlie Rodgers adds the crucial extra point. Late in the period, Slatington puts together a possible go-ahead march but Jim Tully registers back-to-back sacks and a desperation pass falls incomplete. The Bulldogs’ only score comes on a 3-yard run by Bob Pierce.
