Update: Palmerton Jr. High student brought BB gun to school

A 12-year-old male student brought a black BB gun onto the grounds of Palmerton Junior High School on Tuesday morning, according to information released by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers from the Lehighton barracks were dispatched to the school at approximately 8:30 a.m. for a report of “a weapon brought onto school property by a student,” according to a report issued by Trooper Anna Patrone.

The item, police said, was located in the student’s backpack.

Authorities noted that “there were no threats made by the student,” and the BB gun was seized by troopers.

Further investigation is ongoing, according to police.

Palmerton Area School District Superintendent Angela Friebolin informed families via e-mail that a “look-alike weapon was discovered” at the junior high.

She said in her email that “all appropriate action was taken and there is no danger to any students or staff.”

Friebolin said law enforcement officials were notified immediately and that “there is no cause for concern.”
