Citing a rise in and the frequency and complexity of scams, Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) and Sen. David Argall (R-Carbon/Schuylkill/Luzerne) are hosting two seminars about scams on Thursday.
The first seminar will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. The second seminar will take place at 1 p.m. at Saint Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill.
“We want to make sure we are doing what we can to protect our residents,” Heffley said. “It’s frustrating when fraudsters and criminals try to take advantage of people, especially seniors, through phone calls, emails or even in person.”
“With scammers becoming increasingly brazen and creative, we all need to be aware of how to protect ourselves from falling prey to these criminals,” Argall said.
Heffley and Argall will be joined at both events by David P. Shallcross, director of Senior Protection with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
“By bringing in experts like director Shallcross, we’re making sure our communities have access to real, practical advice that can help them stay safe,” Heffley said.
All are welcome to attend. Registration isn’t required, but it is preferred. To register, please contact Heffley’s office at 610-377-6363.
