Man waives charges after fleeing police

A Saylorsburg man has waived charges after fleeing police from a motel in Chestnuthill Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barrack:

At around 5 p.m. Oct. 26, police encountered Gabriel Himelright, 20, standing outside Lynn’s Motel on Route 115.

Police knew Himelright had an active arrest warrant out of Northampton County for aggravated assault and criminal trespass. Himelright falsely identified himself as “Trevor Matthew Himelright.”

Himelright ran from police and when they caught up with him he ran back toward the motel.

Police deployed the Taser twice; however, Himelright continued to flee.

When he was in custody a search revealed he had several baggies containing suspected heroin/fentanyl, a cut piece of blue plastic straw, and a piece of tinfoil with burned residue, consistent with drug use.

Himelright faces charges of flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, false identification to law enforcement officer, intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered, and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is currently in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.
