Blue Mountain, Camelback begin snowmaking
Local ski resorts have ramped up their snowmaking operations in anticipation of an early start to the 2025-2026 season.
Snowmaking is in progress at Blue Mountain Resort, in Palmerton, and Camelback Resort, in Tannersville, and is expected to go through Wednesday.
Both ski destinations are wasting no time taking advantage of the season’s first stretch of sustained cold, and have ramped up aggressive snowmaking operations in anticipation of an early start to the ski season.
At Camelback Resort in Tannersville, 100 snow guns are running nonstop through Wednesday, blanketing Sunbowl and Nile Mile trails in fresh snow as temperatures dip into ideal snowmaking range. The resort’s enhanced system includes new high-pressure feed and summit supply lines powering Margie’s Delight and Sullivan trails, 32 HKD Klik auto hydrants, and 32 HKD Impulse stick guns for faster, more consistent snow coverage.
“When temperatures drop, we’re ready to move — and this week’s weather is perfect for snowmaking,” said Jason Bays, vice president and general manager at Camelback Resort. “Our new upgrades are allowing us to cover more terrain, faster, so we’re set up for a fantastic season ahead.”
Meanwhile, Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton — known for typically being the first ski resort to open in the Poconos — began snowmaking Monday night with over 160 snow guns across 11 trails, including Vista, Paradise and Free fall.
The resort has introduced two TechnoAlpin TT10 tower-mounted fan guns, two mobile TR10 fan guns, and new underground piping upgrades to boost water flow and efficiency.
In addition, Blue Mountain also recently upgraded 380 trail lights to energy-efficient LEDs, illuminating popular runs like Challenge, Razor’s Edge, and Dream weaver for an enhanced night-skiing experience.
“Being first on the mountain each winter is something our team takes pride in,” added Ashley Seier, director of marketing at Blue Mountain Resort. “With improved snowmaking and night-skiing enhancements, we’re ready to deliver an even better experience for our guests this season.”
Jack Frost and Big Boulder are getting started as well. ❄The company posted Tuesday. “We’re firing up the guns at Jack Frost this morning for a test run! Making sure everything’s ready for when Mother Nature gives us the green light. Winter vibes are loading… who’s ready to shred?”
