State police report turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• A 2017 Honda Civic struck a fire extinguisher that was in the road at mile marker 87.3 in Penn Forest Township at 8 a.m. Oct. 6.

Police said the driver, Jackson C. Reed, 21, of Allentown, was uninjured.

They said a truck behind the Honda drove over the extinguisher without striking it but Reed was unable to swerve in time to avoid hitting it.

• Nicole B. Simmons, 50, of Smallwood, New York, and Rachel T, Borrero, 40, of Carbondale, had possible injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at mile marker 78.8 in Franklin Township.

Police said they were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

The said the crash occurred as Simmons was driving a 2018 Kia southbound when she lost control of it. The vehicle spun out and struck hit guide railing and the concrete barrier. It had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

• Daisy M. Urbaez Rivera, 20, of Hazleton, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 3:51 p.m. Oct. 30 at mile marker 75.4 in Parryville borough. She was uninjured in the incident.

Police said she was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra southbound when it left its lane of travel and struck the center concrete barrier. It then crossed both lanes and hit a guide rail.

The car had heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

• Kevin Kugler, 44, of White Haven, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 8:35 p.m. Nov. 5 in a construction zone in Franklin Township.

Police said that he was driving a 2024 Ford Police Interceptor northbound when it struck a metal construction sign in the left lane.

Police said the car had minor damage to its front bumper and undercarriage.

• Police were called to a hit-and-run crash that occurred at 8:38 a.m. Oct. 31 at mile marker 73 in Carbon County.

They said a tractor-trailer traveling south in the right lane struck the passenger side of a 2017 Honda Accord operated by Davona A. Mitchell, 30, of Scranton, and failed to stop. Police said the rig had the name “Martin Brower” on it.

They said the Accord had damage to its passenger-side rear fender.

Mitchell and a passenger were uninjured, police said.
