Tamaqua salutes area veterans
The annual Veterans Day Parade was held Saturday along East and West Broad Streets, Tamaqua, hosted by the C.H. Berry American Legion Post 173, Tamaqua.
Men, women and children were gathered along Broad Streets to pay tribute to the men and women who served out nation in the various branches of the United States Military.
“I think it’s very important to remember what they did for us,” said Carla Reginsky of Tamaqua. “They did so much for our freedom, and we can’t let ourselves forget.”
Grand Marshal Sargent George “Vince” Boyle Jr. rode in a Ford Mustang convertible, along with family members including his granddaughter Chloe Kupres, and great-granddaughter Brinley Boyle, along the length of the parade. Boyle graduated from Marian High School in 1962 and served in the Army from 1962 to 1965, and the Army Reserve until 1968.
At the end of the parade, a short ceremony was held at the Legion at 206 W. Broad St.
Among those who marched or drove in the parade were the Tamaqua Police Department; Tamaqua Ambulance; American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173, Tamaqua; Grand Marshal George V. Boyle; Poppy Queen Isabelle Swartz; Citizenship award winner Julie Stokes; Tamaqua Person of the Year Vince Boyle; Tamaqua Area High School Raider Marching Band, band front, and cheerleaders; Oddfellows; Wreathes Across America; Tamaqua Mahanoy City Masons Lodge 238; Tamaqua Elks Lodge 592; Boy Scout Troop 726, Andreas; Victory Fuel; and Pennsylvania Fire Police.
A number of local and area fire departments had several trucks in the parade: Tamaqua Fire Department, South Ward Fire Co., Citizens Fire Co. East End Fire Co., Tuscarora Fire Co 1, Coaldale Fire Co., and the Hometown Fire Co.
