Lansford borough filed citations against more than 100 property owners who failed to obtain rental licenses in 2025.
The annual fee for 2025 for each rental unit was $150. Then the units must be inspected, and the inspection fee is also $150 per unit. The fees were due by May 1.
The borough has 720 rental units. Shane Monk, the borough code enforcement officer, filed 104 non-traffic citations at District Judge Beth Dodson’s office on Oct. 31, said Council President Bruce Markovich this week.
The property owners found in violation are subject to a $300 fine, plus the license fee and costs, he said.
Some of those property owners did not obtain licenses for 2024 either, Monk said.
The borough solicitor is researching if Lansford can seek payment for the 2024, as well as the 2025 fees, Monk added.
Markovich said in January that the borough sent past due notices with the 2025 renewal notices to recoup payments, and late fees of $30 a month were to be assessed.
ARRO Engineering had been in charge of the rental license applications and fees in 2024, and the borough brought collection back in-house at the start of 2025.
Property owners owe the borough $15,600 in unpaid rental license fees for 2025 alone.
