A Kline Township man is facing charges of terroristic threats after state police said he threatened to kill township Police Chief John Petrilla.
William Thomas Ward, 63, is being held in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, without bail, following his arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua.
State police at the Frackville barracks said the documented bail action reason lists concerns about “harm to self and/or others” and states Ward was experiencing “a complete break from reality.”
Police said Ward called the police barracks around 8:38 p.m. Nov. 1 and “began ranting” about Petrilla. They said he told a dispatcher he was “getting a gun and was going to find Petrilla and “shoot him in the face.”
Police responded to Ward’s residence on Haddock Road, made contact with him and took him into custody.
In an affidavit, police allege that during transport and while at the station Ward made further statements corroborating the threat, stating Ward told officers that Petrilla and another person were “talking in his head by satellite” and that they had tried to kill him in a motorcycle crash.
Police said Ward continued making disparaging statements while the complaint was being typed.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 26 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli.
