Doggy Day care; Waggin’ Tails offers boarding services for pups
A doggy day care business that offers day care and boarding services for pups has been up and running in the greater Northern Lehigh area.
Waggin’ Tails Doggy Daycare, 1036 Riverview Drive, Walnutport, opened in February, according to Katie Ebert, who along with her boyfriend, Thyler Hantz, co-owns the business.
Both originally from Walnutport and graduates of Northampton Area High School, Ebert said they have five dogs, which aided in their decision to open the business.
“Our love for our fur babies made us want to open a place for not only our pups, but others as well,” Ebert said. “We want your pup to have a home away from home where they can play all day.”
Ebert said they are family-run, and noted that they converted the facility, the former Lehigh Landscaping Supply & Nursery, into the doggy day care and have almost 1 acre of enclosed land.
“We put Astroturf down, fenced in nearly a full acre of land, epoxied the floor and redid the building,” she said. “We built six kennels, and plan to expand to put another six in,” she said. “We’ve grown really fast; we’re up to 80 dogs a week.”
Ebert said they hold meet and greets with their clients on-site, and said the business does not have any breed restrictions.
She said the pups are outside pretty much the entire time, and added that they also have an hour nap time each day.
Ebert said the business has two full-time employees and three part-time employees.
She said they always have at least two people on watching the dogs every day, and added they’re never alone.
“We haven’t had any complaints,” Ebert said. “Everyone says it’s really clean.”
She said they offer day care services, both full days and half-days, as well as boarding.
Pricing for day care for a full day (6 to 12 hours) is $40, while the cost of a half-day (up to 6 hours) is $35; pricing for boarding for a single dog is $75, and more than one dog is $70. Discounts of 10% apply for each additional pup, as well as for military and first responders.
“It’s a fun place for your dogs while you’re at work,” Ebert said. “It’s their home away from home, and a great environment for all dogs.”
Ebert said they use Gingr to help create a profile for pups in which they will be able to do all of their bookings and payments. They also post pictures for customers there, she said, noting there is also an app to download so customers can do everything on the go. They may sign up at https://waggintailsdd.portal.gingrapp.com/#/public/login.
Requirements are that pups need to be up to date on vaccines, including rabies and distemper; pups have to be comfortable with others, as all pups are together during the day; and pups have to be comfortable with being inside and outside, as workers will be in and out most of the day.
Ebert said a mobile groomer comes out once a month, and they do not have to be day care dogs.
She added they stay close to their clients to establish that close relationship with parents and their dogs.
Waggin’ Tails Doggy Daycare is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. They are open Sundays just for boarding.
