State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Steven S. Ford, 41, of New Ringgold, was cited for following too closely after a three-vehicle crash at 5:24 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the intersection of East Lizard Creek and Holiday roads in East Penn Township. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2020 Kenworth truck that struck the rear of a 2013 Fiat operated by Michael A. von Fossen, 49, of Lehighton, pushing it into a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe operated by Troy D. Dugan, 35, of Lehighton. They said both vehicles slowed down as Dugan prepared to turn left at the intersection.
Police said the Fiat was towed from the scene, while the Kenworth and Tahoe were able to be driven from it.
• A driver is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a one-vehicle crash on Oct. 14 on Interchange Road in Franklin Township.
Police said the vehicle was westbound between Main Road and Wagner Street when the driver lost control. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and hit two garbage receptacles before traveling back across the lanes and striking the center guide rail.
Police said the driver fled but was apprehended a short distance away at a gas station and convenience store.
• Dolores A. Juris, 77, of Effort, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 8:37 a.m. on Oct. 15 at the intersection of Mountain View Drive and Weir Mountain Road in Polk Township. No one was injured.
Police said she was driving a 2009 Subaru Impreza on Mountain View Drive when she pulled into the intersection without proper clearance and the car was struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Express operated by Frank Louis Denora Jr., 31, of East Stroudsburg.
Police said a local towing service was called to assist them at the scene.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 2:05 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the intersection of Interchange and Homestead roads in Towamensing Township.
Police said the crash occurred when Irfan Tamim, 22, of Brooklyn, New York, was driving a 2017 Mazda6 that struck the rear of a 2018 Ford Explorer operated by Ashley M. Wentz, 39, of Kunkletown, after the latter had slowed in an attempt to turn left onto Homestead Road.
Police said the Mazda had damage to its right fender area and a flat front tire, while the Ford had damages to its driver’s side doors. Police were assisted at the scene by a local towing service.
Tamim was cited for following too closely, according to police.
