Palmerton woman sentenced in husband’s death

A Palmerton woman who was involved in a plot to kill her husband last December in the parking lot of a Whitehall Township store was sentenced to serve 2 1/2 to 10 years in a state prison during proceedings held Wednesday in Lehigh County Court.

Brenda Rodriguez, 52, was sentenced by Judge Robert L. Steinberg on a felony charge of conspiracy- aggravated assault in connection with the death of her husband, Hector Garcia Gomez, 46, of Palmerton, last Dec. 7.

Rodriguez is the third person to be sentenced in the case. Previously, Christian Martinez-Ramos, 36, of Allentown, was sentenced to 30-60 years in a state prison on charges of murder in the third degree and conspiracy to commit murder in the third degree, and Liz Marie Pacheco, 38, of Allentown, was ordered to serve 5-10 years in a state prison on a charge of murder in the third degree.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan, who announced Rodriguez’s sentence, previously detailed the incident that happened in the parking lot of Loco Hot Deals at 1155 MacArthur Road, where police found Garcia Gomez with multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen. Following his death, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio ruled the death a homicide.

Holihan said while Garcia Gomez’s car was in the parking lot of the store, he entered the store while Rodriguez stayed inside the car and appeared to be on her phone. He said the investigation revealed Rodriguez was providing her husband’s location to Pacheco, who then forwarded the information to Martinez-Ramos. Police said Martinez-Ramos arrived at the lot, parking behind the victim’s car, and opened fire on him as he began to get into his car. Martinez-Ramos then fled the scene, police said.

The case was investigated by Whitehall Township Police Detective Lindsay Yetter and Lehigh County Homicide Task Force detectives Timothy Salgado, James Bruchak and Amaury Almonte and was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney James A. Augustine.
