Brothers’ Eagle Scout projects benefit Walnutport Canal

Carter and Aaden Clough started their Eagle Scout projects back in July. The ideas arose last year from Walnutport Canal Days, when their troop had a stand there.

They are members of Boy Scout Troop 62 from Berlinsville. Their projects are for the community at the Walnutport Canal. Carter and Aaden are 17 and part of a set of triplets. Their sister is working on her Gold Project with the Girl Scouts.

Requirements for Eagle Scout projects are leadership, service to others, planning and development, and that the project must impact the community. All Scout leaders agreed that the brothers followed all of the guidelines for their Eagle Scout Award.

Carter planned and carried out his idea of refurbishing five benches, making two new picnic tables and a lost and found box for the canal at Walnutport. He had fundraisers to purchase supplies. Materials for the lost and found box were donated by BH General Contractor. Carter had help from fellow Scouts, the community and his mom.

Each bench, table and the lost and found box have red plaques that read: Eagle Scout Project completed Carter Clough, Troop #62 Berlinsville, PA, August 2025.

“It was a long process from start to finish,” Carter said. “First the planning, borrowing tools, making time, and support. My co-Scouts and leaders were always ready to help, and thanks to our mom for really supporting us.”

Carter also does percussion in the marching band at Northampton Area High School.

Aaden’s project was for improvements in the Memorial Garden of Walnutport, next to the Canal Pavilion. It includes fencing, pavers and rockscape. Aaden also had fundraisers to purchase supplies. Aaden had a key donation of supplies from Mike Suprys, Slatedale Cemetery Services.

Aaden’s plaques reads: Garden Improvements, Fence, pavers, rockscape — Completed by Aaden Clough, Troop #62, Berlinsville, PA, September 2025.

“I drew up the original plans for my ideas,” Aaden said. “I had a lot of help from my leaders and my co-Scouts. I got to concentrate on the center of the improvements, which was the pavers. We worked hard to make sure they were completely level. We added fencing to the area where there was none, and thanks to our mom for doing a lot of leg work, and transporting supplies.”

Aaden also plays the cello in the orchestra at Northampton Area High School.

Rob Reagan, assistant scoutmaster, praised both Scouts.

“The boys showed great leadership during their projects,” he said.
