Pie crust pickups

Hands will be busy beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday to make the pie crusts previously ordered at Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville. Pickup begins at the church at 1 p.m.

Double dining

McMichaels UMC is holding a double dining event on Saturday.

Breakfast will be available from 8-10 a.m. Lunch, with a soup sale with hot dogs, will be available from noon-3 p.m.

Gun bingo

The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company in Kresgeville is holding a gun bingo on Saturday. Doors open at 3 p.m., and bingo is at 5 p.m. Only 250 tickets will be sold. For cost and more information, visit the fire company’s page on Facebook.

Pantry open

Effort UMC’s Supplemental Food Resource Center will be open from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Special Mass

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is holding a special Mass of Remembrance at 7 p.m. tonight during which all loved ones will be honored.

There will be a special acknowledgment made of those whose funeral took place at Our Lady Queen of Peace since last All Soul’s Day, “with a candle and their names read at the Prayer of the Faithful.”

The invitation is offered to all to come to the liturgy and join the reception after Mass has ended.

Grief Share

Mount Eaton Church, at 7277 Mount Eaton Road in Saylorsburg, hosts a Grief Share gathering Sundays from 2-4 p.m.

Youth sale set

A sweet sale is being held by the Youth Group at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church over the weekend during all Masses on Saturday and Sunday. It is the final fundraiser for the group’s anticipated trip to Indianapolis.

Homecoming dance

Pleasant Valley’s homecoming dance will take place from 6-9 p.m. Saturday in the high school’s new gym, according to the district’s website.

Harvest Home

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is holding Harvest Home Sunday this Sunday.

Baked goods are needed to sell that day to benefit the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

In addition, the church will be collecting canned goods and nonperishable items for PVEN.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced that the last Mass on Saturday has been moved to 4 p.m.

Hoagie sale

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is holding a hoagie sale. Orders are due by Sunday.

Honoring veterans

The Pleasant Valley Elementary School will hold a Veterans Day celebration at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Legion’s celebration

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting a Veterans Day Celebration and Ceremony from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday. It is open to the community and will include guest speakers. A light lunch will be provided.

Veterans Memorial

Polk Township will hold a veterans memorial ceremony at noon Tuesday.

The next meeting of Operation: Touch of Home is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.

Giving tree start

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church begins its Giving Tree on Saturday. All gifts should be left unwrapped with the tag securely attached and left under the tree by Dec. 3.

Angel tags and tags for sneakers, socks and underwear will benefit local children in need through the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

Yellow senior male and female tags are for homebound and nursing homes residents from the church parish. Red tags are for children in need from the parish.

Nature walk set

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is holding its next nature walk on Nov. 15 at the Van Buskirk Haney Park in Saylorsburg. The group will leave the church at 11 a.m.

The intent of the monthly walks is to “get into shape together — physically, mentally, and spiritually!”

Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company is hosting a fall craft fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 16 at its “home” at 797 Route 115, Saylorsburg.

Shoebox deadline

St. Mathew’s EC, Kunkletown, has announced its deadline for receiving Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes is Nov. 16.

The boxes will be dropped off at a local location on Nov. 20 to begin their respective travels to a home for a child in need of love from afar.

Each box’s shipping cost may be donated to the church; the cost may be obtained by calling the church at 610-381-2442.

Christmas sale

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting its second annual Christmas Sale & Basket Raffle from 9-5 p.m. Nov. 14 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 15.

There will be many items for sale and the event will include homemade baked goods.

Filling and gravy

The Laymen’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s EC church is holding a filling sale along with a gravy sale. Orders are due by Nov. 16.

The pickup day Nov. 25 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at the church.

Turkey dinner

McMichaels Methodist will hold a Thanksgiving dinner from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 22.

Dinner will include turkey, filling, gravy, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls, salad and homemade dessert.

It can be eat-in or carryout.

Auction/dinner

Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is holding a silent auction and spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 22 in the church’s parish hall.

Proceeds will benefit the church’s community ministries and the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

PVEN needs help

With SNAP benefit uncertainty this month, the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is asking the community “to help us feed more that 450 families this year, including our regular clients and local families that need a little more help right now …”

The request continues with how folks can help, including donating your free turkey from a local grocery store. Bring it to the PVEN office on a Monday or Friday from 8-11 a.m.

Other PVEN needs include: stuffing mix, cornbread mix, etc. The items can be taken to donation bins at the following locations: PVEN Food Pantry, 2334 Route 209, Sciota; Kinsley’s ShopRite, Brodheadsville; Western Pocono Community Library, 131 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville; and St. Luke’s Family Practice, 111 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is planning Thanksgiving meals for the families it serves. Needed are turkeys and turkey breasts, gravy mixes, cranberry sauce, canned yams, cornbread mix, stuffing, and pancake mix and syrup.

Shelf-stable donations can be dropped of 24 hours a day in the teal bin outside the food pantry at 2334 Route 209, Sciota. Perishable items can be dropped off from 8-11 a.m. Mondays and Fridays or at other times by appointment. Call 717-992-3136 to make arrangements.

Poinsettia plants

St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, has announced that the chancel area will be decorated with poinsettias on Christmas Eve. Plants are available in red, pink or white.

Orders are due to Linda Hinton by Sunday, Dec. 1.

Habitat flower sale

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is having a holiday season fundraiser selling amaryllis or paper white bulb kits to raise money for its local mission.

A variety of bulb kits are available for purchase both online and in-store at the Monroe County ReStore, 2610 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg.

Orders must be placed before Dec. 1 so the bulb kit will arrive before Christmas Day.

Regional zoning

The Chestnuthill, Jackson, Eldred, Ross and Polk Townships Regional Planning Committee is currently reviewing and updating the regional joint zoning plan of its member townships.

An online community survey will be open until Nov. 28.

The survey invites input on housing, economic development, the environment and quality of life. In addition to being online, paper copies of the survey can be found at each township building.

Cannoli sale

Zion Lutheran Church is accepting orders for 6-inch long cannoli, filled with Italian cannoli cream and mini-chocolate chips, throughout November. Pickup date is Dec. 6 from noon-3 p.m.

Medicare reminder

The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging is reminding seniors that the Medicare annual open enrollment period continues through Dec. 7.

During the period, beneficiaries can join, switch or drop Medicare drug plans or Medicare Advantage coverage.

Coverage and costs change every year, so beneficiaries should review their plans and compare them to other plans.

Free counseling is available; call aging agency at 570-420-3735.

Collecting shoes

St. Matthew’s EC Church, Kunkletown, is helping Shalom Bayit Foundation collect shoes through Jan. 31, 2026.

The types of shoes include gently worn, used and new shoes.

Shoe donations can be dropped off at the church from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays.
