Polk Township supervisors discussed the following this week:
• Polk Township’s roadmaster/supervisor Brian K. Ahner reported that the salt building is in need of repairs. Engineer Russell Kresge added, “It is desperately in need. The roof is in pretty bad shape. A roof replacement should last 20 to 30 years.”
Ahner explained that the budget for equipment breakdown was exceeded this year, so they will change the budget. Several pieces of equipment were recently repaired, and they are preparing the trucks for snow.
• The township is considering hiring a full-time person for the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. As the cost to haul trash has almost doubled, they are looking at a hire who is able to haul trash to save the hauling fee. There will be a 90-day trial period once hired.
• Paving is complete and line painting on Stuckle and Township Road is finished.
• The Baumgartner family was thanked for donating a tree to the Veterans Memorial.
• Polk Township Fire Company reported 15 emergencies for the month of September with 228 hours of training and 114 hours of fundraising. There were 197 calls year-to-date. The majority of members participated in an emergency driving course.
