Man kicked in door, assaulted woman in Coaldale, police say
Tamaqua police charged Jason DeMarco, 50, with simple assault, burglary and other offenses following an Oct. 25 incident in Coaldale.
Police said they were called to a report of a domestic disturbance on the 200 block of West Early Avenue in Coaldale at 8:43 a.m. Tamaqua police cover Coaldale.
The Schuylkill County Communications Center advised police that a man had kicked in the door. Police received updates from the center, noting that the caller was being assaulted, and that the suspect had fled in a vehicle.
Police said the caller has a Protection from Abuse order against DeMcarco. The woman said that despite the PFA, she allowed DeMarco to stay at her home on a couch because he claimed he was cold and had nowhere to go. She remained in her bedroom overnight.
When the woman awoke, DeMarco was agitated and accused her of seeing other people, she told police. She asked him to leave. DeMarco left after she called 911, the woman said. But police said he returned and kicked through a locked and bolted rear door.
Police said he broke the door frame and said, “I’m going to get my money’s worth.”
The woman told police that DeMarco punched her in the nose and tackled her. While she was on the floor, he pressed his fingers into the underside of her nose and then pressed upward, she told police. She was able to break free but DeMarco fled before officers arrived. The woman had a bloody nose, cut lip and other facial injuries.
DeMarco also faces charges of criminal trespassing-break into a structure, harassment and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned Friday and freed after posting 10% of $2,500 bail, according to court papers.
A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer of Tamaqua is scheduled for Nov. 25.
Court papers say DeMarco is from Barnesville.
